No extra storey—just essential roof repairs. Stripped back, the 580-year-old oak timbers are reassuringly sound, though insulation and felt were long overdue. Careful restoration continues, preserving historic character while uncovering fascinating layers of the cottage’s architectural evolution.
Value Engineering, the Restoration Team and Future Use
After delays over lease negotiations and rising costs, the cottage restoration is moving forward. With expert local teams appointed and an opening planned for mid-2026, we’re focused on creating a vibrant wellbeing and heritage space for Cranleigh.
Work on the Cottage has Started
Restoration has begun, with the roof stripped for essential repairs and heritage features carefully protected. Volunteers have cleared the garden, experts are surveying historic details, and progress continues as Cranleigh Heritage Trust works to revive the cottage for future community use.
